Antwan Banks Williams

Born and raised in Los Angeles California, I naturally seen the world through a different lens. Both of my parents are artist so expression was a cornerstone of my house hold until addiction crippled my family’s foundation and left my sister and I to our own devises and the ways of the world. At many points in my life I took to the arts as a ways to navigate when my direction was uncertain, or being overwhelmed with simple feelings of loosing myself. For me, art comes in many different mediums such as drawing, painting, dance, poetry, music, fashion and now photography. My love for photography came when I realized the opportunity I had to not just witness people, but to creatively show them they beauty and power they poses.

This site I will be documenting my journey into photography and the connections I experienced with the people I shoot with. I will cover what I call my four cornerstones and capstone to every shoot. Those corner stones are (1) How I came to work with the person I shot with. (2) Where did we shoot and with did I see or think of creatively for that shoot. (3) What were some of my struggles. (4) What was something I learned along the way. (5) My capstone and what I feel is the most important is a beautiful moment that had nothing to do with the photoshoot.

All of my work is centered around highlighting the beauty in other people. Some photoshoots will be more put together and some will be just capturing people in their element. The one take away from of these photos is that we are all beautiful in whatever space, time, and place we are in. Those are the moments worth capturing.
